Red Delicious
A very attractive figure: shiny skin, beautifully speckled.
Top heavy, unbalanced. Muscular structure with evenly placed solid bumps.
Pointless skin that adds nothing to the flavor except a bit of unpleasant bitterness in some bites. The flesh is often so mealy it almost immediately disintegrates.
An initial juicy outburst of sweetness which quickly subsides into a synthetic flavor.
You're waiting in line at Six Flags. Sweat drips down your forehead. You pop a sour candy into your mouth; your belly twitches and the familiar discomfort sends a chill down your back. The red delicious has the hallmarks of a mass produced product: consistent look, synthetic flavor, inconsistent quality. There is something almost comforting about it—like a fruit flavored candy you grew up eating. Almost comforting. It is one of the most widely reviled apple varieties for good reason, but it still has its unique charms!
